Martin Luther King Jr. Day Activities

Apr 14, 2019 | Historical Dates, Volunteer

ISB members were involved in a number of MLK Jr. Day projects and programs in the Atlanta area. On Saturday, January 19th, several ISB members and their families volunteered to clean up Washington State Park. It was a dreary, chilly and overcast day, but that did not dampen the spirits of the cleaning team as they worked the park and collected several bags of debris. They were all smiles as they strived to “put in work” to actualize the ISB theme for the weekend: “Service to others brings us all together”.

ISB was honored to have Amin Tomeh be invited to join the panel of distinguished guests to speak at the Ebenezer Baptist Church 51 st annual Commemorative MLK Jr. Day service on Monday January 21st. Amin delivered a powerful message of hope, inclusiveness, and working together across differences to advance the common good of society for all American citizens.

On behalf of ISB, I also attended a 2-day workshop on Nonviolence 365 training at the King Center on January 8th  and 9th. The training session was so timed to be part of the MLK Day celebration.

Additionally, ISB members participated in a number of MLK Day commemorative events in local geographies throughout the metro-Atlanta area, including Fayetteville, Decatur, Roswell and Marietta.
